Best Side Jobs For Extra Money – 4 Key Jobs

There are a lot of side jobs out there but here are four that stand out as great money makers.

I have spent significant time searching for jobs that make sense as ones that you can pick up easily.

The 4 jobs that I recommend for making extra money are the following:

DoorDash Delivery Driver

Instacart Grocery Shopper

Dog Walker/Pet Sitter

Household Assistant Through TaskRabbit

A good idea is to leave yourself available on the weekends because this is when both of these jobs could be the busiest.

You can start making money quickly with both of these jobs. If you are willing to learn how to be effective and efficient at these jobs, then you can make good consistent money.

Through this post I will explain why these are some of the best side jobs for extra money out there and worth giving a try.

DoorDash Delivery Driver

Becoming a DoorDash delivery driver is probably one of the easiest jobs that you can start with and earn money quickly.

A huge benefit is that you get to do this work on your schedule and you can squeeze in 2 hours here and there to boost your income.

Drive Your Car on Your Own Schedule With DoorDash

After downloading the DoorDash Dash App, the DoorDash delivery driver picks an area they want to work in and then waits for an order to be sent to them by a customer.

The driver then decides if they want to accept that order and if they accept it, then they are sent the details of the order by the customer.

You can see the exact amount that you as the driver will make for completing this delivery. You can also see how many details there are for each order such as how far the drive is going to be and any complicating factors there.

The driver can decline an order but it is better to accept most of the orders in your area. This is because it will get you more money and it will keep your rating within the Dasher App high too.

The higher the ratings you have as a driver, the more likely that people will tip you and the more likely you are to get orders. After the driver gets the order details, then they drive to the restaurant, or place where the food is located, and pick up the food.

The driver then simply drives back to where the customer is and drops off the food. After the driver delivers the food, then within 10 minutes the driver is paid by the customer.

In my experience working as a DoorDash delivery driver, I found that this could be a good job to pick up money.

It is important to note that you need to determine what the busiest times are and leave yourself available during that time.

There also is some trial and error to figure out which zone in your area is the best for you to make the most money.

You should be able to communicate effectively with your customers that have ordered food. This is because this will allow you to have a much greater chance of getting tipped after the order has been completed.

To get started with DoorDash as a delivery driver with a car here are the requirements:

  • Be over 18 years old
  • Have an iPhone or Android phone
  • Volunteer your Social Security number
  • Have a clean driving record
  • Car insurance
  • A valid driver’s license

DoorDash will also perform a background check using your Social Security number to check your driving record.

Most reviews of being a delivery driver claim that they are able to get what they wanted. Once you have set up your account, you quickly can make money.

The flexible hours and consistent pay is definitely a pro. But if you want to make the most money you can make from this job, then you must be willing to determine the details of your specific area.

It will take some time to understand how to maximize how much you can make in your given zone. But once you figure out that out you can really make consistent good money.

You don’t need to have a vehicle to be a driver, which can definitely cut down on expenses if you can deliver on a bike.

Some zones in a city can actually have this option make sense while others require you to have a car if you want to be able to make money.

I would recommend trying this job out just for a short 2-hour period to get a better idea of what it is like. I found that this was a good amount of time to show me how realistic this job could be for me.

Each delivery I got a little better at being efficient. It took some time but once I really came up with a system for making a delivery efficiently then I was able to make money easily.

I was really only looking for an easy way to make a little extra money and this job was just what I was wanting.

  1. As a student who doesn’t have much free time, I find the food delivery perfect side money provider. It’s easy, doesn’t cost anything (using a bike), and you meet a lot of new people.

A great tip that I could add is to be so nice to people, that when they use your service a few times, they will get used to you and will prefer you delivering the food.

I have never heard of grocery shopping for somebody else thou. Sounds interesting. Maybe I will give it a try someday, if my thing with uber doesn’t work out as I plan.

    1. Definitely if you have a bike then the food delivery jobs can be a great money provider.
Being nice to people does really matter a lot especially if you are working in the same area frequently.

  2. These two jobs are perfect for anyone with a reliable means of transportation who wants to earn a bit of side income. I think maybe a bicycle could work so long as the weather was cooperating on the day you are delivering and also, if there are not too many bags. A motorcycle would work for the nice weather and even rainy weather because alot of motorcyclists use the side bags to carry things in.

This post is definitely some food for thought 🙂

    1. A bicycle or motorcycle could definitely work well for these jobs if there weren’t too many bags.
One important thing I discovered was that when there is rainy and cold weather then you are more likely to get orders. If you have a motorcycle and are determined even in rainy and cold weather, then you could potentially earn more money during those not ideal weather times.

  3. My boyfriend works in sales and I’ve been looking at side jobs that he could do while he waits for sales appts. I’ve looked at these as well as UberEats and Grubhub. It’s good to hear your opinion that Instacart and DoorDash brought some decent side money in. I will tell him to check them out. DoorDash sounds like it may be the most flexible which is what he needs. We have so many restaurants around where we live, it would be great if lunchtime is busy enough around here to make money. Did you find that if you were a good communicator and got their order right that a decent amount of people tipped well?

    1. Yes, if you are a good communicator and get their order right then people are more likely to tip.
I would say DoorDash is an easier option to get started with quickly. Once you are setup with DoorDash it can be pretty easy to squeeze in short amounts of time where you make some money for say a 2 hour period of time.
If you live in an area with a lot of restaurants then I think that DoorDash could work well for you.

  4. These 2 jobs sounds great to earn some extra money and along with flexible hours.
So far I only know about uber eats but DoorDash Delivery Driver sounds interesting, will tell my boyfriend to try it out since we live in crowded area.

Thank you for sharing this information.

  5. Seems like your article’s the real CASH trying to throw in some money in my own pocket – and, it’s true as I read the explanation in details.
DoorDash Delivery Driver sounds interesting as it allows you to work in your own schedules.
You’ve also broken down the essential requirements to perform the task.

Was wondering if the DoorDash App is available for all countries irrespective of developed or developing countries?
You’ve done a good job here.
    Thanks for sharing.
