Tips to Use When Buying A Car

Research New or Used Car Purchases

Buying a new or used car is a big purchase and spending some extra time researching will likely save you big.

There are specific ways to reduce spending extra on a new vehicle whether that car is brand new or used.

These ways include the following:

  • Keep Car Longer before opting for your next car
  • Look at Total Expense for that New Car
  • Put the Car that Makes Sense for You and Your Liftstyle
  • Buy Slightly Used over New Car

Keeping a car longer will help you get more use out of it and prevent you from paying extra for a newer car. A new car can come with tons of expenses and it is worth considering what all of those expenses are going to cost you.

Buying a slightly used car over a brand new car is going to save you tons.

Most of the value of a car goes down in the first 2 years of driving it around even if it is taken care of well.

Purchasing a car that is a couple years removed from being brand new can save you tons while still giving you a valuable car.

It is important to always get as much information as possible about the car that you are about to buy whether it is brand new or used.

Use Consumer Reports

Reading and using Consumer Reports could give you helpful information about all the details involved in a car. Consumer Reports is a nonprofit that is focused on providing honest information about many products.

I like to have a specific section in my budget that accounts for tire replacement. This can be an expense that comes along at different times of the year and can even go years between replacements depending on how much you are driving.

The main reason that I have this section in my budget is to be prepared for this expense by saving up money every month.

If the expense to replace all 4 tires was $600 and this needed to happen every 18 months, then taking the $600 and dividing it by 18 would give me the monthly amount that I would need for this expense.

$600 = All 4 Tires Replacement Expense

18 Months = Time Between each Tire Replacement

$600/18 = $33.33 Per Month

Consumer Reports can give you helpful information about any deals that are happening and which tires are right for your car.

I took a month to research as much as I could about the car I was trying to get and found a few helpful resources.

Consumer Reports gave me all kinds of information that helped narrow down the search for a car. Buying a new car, or a used car, is a big purchase and should be carefully researched to get you exactly what you need.

    1. You are welcome!
Consumer Reports has all kinds of helpful information about cars and many other products.
One of the best ways I keep my car protected against theft is by taking everything valuable out of the car whenever I leave the car.
This helps reduce the chance that someone will want to break into your vehicle.
I have had my car broken into and it was most likely because my backpack was in the car and that looked valuable.
