Overview

Paribus was founded in 2014 by Eric Glyman and Karim Atiyeh in Brooklyn. Both graduated form Harvard University and created this company to help simplify the process of getting a refund after there is a price drop.

In 2016 Paribus was acquired by Capital One, a bank holding company that specializes in credit cards and banking accounts.

Paribus has reportedly found over $20,000,000 for 3,000,000 users since it was founded.

Paribus is designed to help you keep up to date on when there is a price drop. If a price drop occurs, you can be eligible for a refund if you are using Paribus.

By signing up with this resource, you could be eligible to earn money back through refunds.

Paribus claims to help you keep tabs on price drops. Because when the price drops, you may be eligible for a refund.

Paribus Overview

Most people don’t take the time to monitor whether something they just purchased has dropped down in price from the time they bought it, let alone actually try to get money back somehow.

Paribus is a website and app that tracks when a product goes down in price and can give you money back if you follow the proper instructions to get your money back.

This is a mostly straight forward process except through specific retailers where the process can be a little more challenging, such as Amazon.

There are certain criteria for you to earn money back:

  • Taking note of a change in price
  • Alerting a customer service representative and showing your receipt for that purchase
  • Stand by for the refund to be authorized

Permissions Required

You must be willing to give Paribus access to your email account so that it can scan some of your emails to determine if you qualify for a refund.

If the idea of granting access to this resource makes you uneasy, then perhaps trying another money saving resource could be a better choice.

You can always check out the Paribus Support page for the details about the permission required and other details.

When you are in the process of connecting a third-party app to your email address, you will need to give them access to your account.

By doing this you could be allowing yourself to save a significant amount of money, especially if you do a lot of shopping consistently.

Privacy is very important to Paribus and they do not do the following:

  1. Store the password for your account
  2. Sell your data
  3. Scan all emails, only relevant money saving ones

A significant way to grant access to your email account and not feel like you are putting sensitive information out there is by starting a new email account.

If you start a new email account, you can start sending all your purchases over to that new email account so Paribus can easily check these for potential refund opportunities.

This new email account could be solely for money saving opportunities through Paribus or other money saving resources such as Rakuten.

How Do You Receive Money?

There has to be at least a $3.00 price drop before Paribus will contact you about getting a refund.

Paribus will discover a price drop and then contact the company where you bought your product and will ask them for a refund. But the refund is not guaranteed.

Paribus works in the background of your computer or phone, quietly scanning through your purchase receipts to check for money saving refunds.

If a refund is accepted by a company, then you will receive your refund in about 3-7 days.

Important Details

To sign up for Paribus you must apply with an account connected to Gmail, Yahoo! or Outlook.

You will need to download and install the Paribus app or use the website on your computer or phone. You will be able to get the same refund opportunities whether you are using the Paribus app or website.

There are only a few criteria you have to meet to qualify for Paribus.

Eligibility for Paribus:

  • Must be a U.S. resident
  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must have a valid email address

The Main Supported Retailers

There are 30 specific retailers that Paribus searches consistently for price drops.

Paribus is transparent about each store that they scan regularly and the details needed to receive a refund for each specific store can be found here.

A few of the main retailers include:

  1. Amazon
  2. Macy’s
  3. Target
  4. Best Buy
  5. Gap

Each store has slightly different policies about what kind of refunds you can get. It is important to review each of the main stores that you are likely to purchase from and try to get refunds from.

If there is no explicit policy, then Paribus will still try to get you a refund.

Benefits of Using

  • Free to sign up
  • Once your email account is linked, you could have significant money saving potential
  • Don’t need a credit card

Negatives of Using

  • Requires permission to scan some of your emails
  • Not as easy to start saving money as other cash back resources

Paribus is Good, But…

I have used this app for some time now and it has saved me a little money, but it is not the best app for saving money.

Rakuten, which I covered in my Review of Rakuten, is in my opinion a better resource for consistently saving you money because it can give you more cash back.

I don’t particularly like how I have to give access to my email account. Paribus is a trustworthy company but going through this step still made me feel a little uneasy.

Paribus is certainly worth trying out and will likely be able to save you money. But this resource is just not quite as good as Rakuten for getting you cash back or saving you money.
