Build an Arsenal of Ideas

Build an Arsenal of Ideas

This first part of the book gets you going with ideas quickly so that you can find the best idea for a side hustle.

Your idea for a side hustle should be the following:

  • Feasible
  • Profitable
  • Persuasive

Can you efficiently and effectively get your idea launched in the next month?

The author gives great examples of good ideas versus an amazing idea.

You can drive for Uber, which could be a nice side income, or you could become a coach for Uber drivers, which could make you more money.

This first part of the book helps you calculate your potential profit through a helpful equation:

Expected Income – Expected Expenses = Projected Profit

The first seven days force you to research different ideas and get you going quickly. A major theme of this part of the book is to jump start your side hustle into life by quickly generating many potentially successful ideas.

Select Your Best Idea

This second part of the book focuses on how to rank your ideas for side hustles and helps you compare these ideas to the current successful businesses in that niche.

Building on what was talked about in the first part of the book about how a great idea for a side hustle must include it being feasible, profitable and persuasive, as well as there being Efficiency and Motivation.

These 2 qualities help you further narrow down what is a great idea by explaining that you must be able to efficiently get your idea started and there must be plenty of motivation on your part to want to make this idea work.

Creating a simple table for each idea that displays the 5 qualities and then including a rank of High, Medium or Low to each of them, will allow you to quickly separate the good ideas from the best ideas.

  1. Feasible
  2. Profitable
  3. Persuasive
  4. Efficiency
  5. Motivation

Include for each idea whether each of these qualities is able to rank High, Medium or Low.

Find out what other successful businesses are doing in the niche you are interested in building a side hustle.

Try to find a way to emulate the good characteristics that these successful businesses are doing but also find a way to offer something different. Research your competition and look for a way to stand out from the successful examples.

Determine who your ideal customer is and tailor your service, offer or idea to that customer. This part of the book includes helpful tips to create a sense of urgency to help get a few sales and create a more convincing offer.

Lastly, create a story of how your side hustle was born to help convince people that you are trustworthy as well as to increase the amount of sales or business you will receive.

Prepare for Liftoff

In this third part of the book Guillebeau talks about general principles that are going to help prepare you for the decisions you must make as a business owner. These principles mainly focus on having separate accounts and keeping your side hustle separate from the rest of your life.

Creating work environment is key for success and productivity for your side hustle. Coming up with a way to have success be going to come down to how efficient and effective you can be with your time.

The product and service offered should be over the lowest amount of profit that you can afford.

Build a shopping list of all the resources needed to succeed in this information age.

These resources could include:

  • Website
  • Social Media Profiles
  • Scheduling Tool
  • Workflow
  • Payment System

Guillebeau goes into some detail here about these resources listed above but also explains how you should check out his website, SideHustleSchool.com/resources, to find an updated list of items.

The last part of this week 3 goes into detail explaining how an effective workflow be going to set you up for success.

A workflow is a bunch of events that must happen in a certain order for a job or service to be completed.

The main theme of this week is to focus most of your energy on the bigger and more important details and less on the less important details.

Launch Your Idea to the Right People

This week is about pushing you to get your idea out into the world, even if you are fully ready. Figure out your strategy to sell your offer and push to sell it.

Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback from the following people:

  1. Supporters
  2. Mentors
  3. Influencers
  4. Ideal Customers

Getting data and feedback from any of these people be going to give you very useful information to continue to get better at selling your product or service.

Another important point brought up here is to become a person that others want to help by being grateful for any little help that is given to you after you reach out to people.

Keep adjusting your offer because it should only be getting better over time as you find what works and what doesn’t.

Understand that almost every person is likely to buy a product or service if there is a significant amount of scarcity or urgency.

Incorporating scarcity and urgency, without being misleading, is likely going to allow your business to be successful.

Guillebeau lists helpful tips to help fine tune a special offer you make to customers to get them to buy your offer. Understanding how to utilize these special offers could make you get a big boost in sales.

Regroup and Refine

The final week of the program is geared towards tracking your progress so far and determining what level of success you have achieved.

Look at three different areas to determine where your side hustle is at including:

  • Profit
  • Growth
  • Time

The combination of these three will inform you if you are effectively making money, moving in the right direction and being efficient with your time.

Focus on what has been working and do more of that.

Come up with different ideas that you can add to your offer to help make it more valuable and make more money. If you add more value to what you are selling, then people will want to buy more of your offer.

This book finishes with a focus on how important it is to come up with a very efficient workflow process to help increase sales without cutting down on value from your offer.

The main theme of this last week and most of the book is to become very efficient and effective with all aspects of your side hustle.
